Van Buskirk (Or just Buskirk) is a rough and gruff intergalactic drifter. Hailing from the planet Bareria, he's an old friend of Gary's. Whenever he's in the system Buskirk will visit Mqueie to see Kim and Gary. Buskirk's ship, the Nosha Bucaming, (seen at left) is quiet possibly the greatest piece of junk in the galaxy, yet Buskirk is quiet proud of it and will even attest to it's "quality".

After Kim receives the Lens, Buskirk makes Kim his responsibility and fights by the young Kinnison's side until Kim can deliver the Lens to The Galactic Patrol.

In the face of mortal danger Buskirk promises to give up numerous vices if he makes it out of the situation alive. By the movie's end he's given up swearing, gambling, and drinking...or, so he says.
